The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I read the book first, which makes it difficult to compare the movie. It is dark, but it is real. It will drag you in and literally drag you psychologically and emotionally. This isn't a popcorn flick. The Road is a serious movie for the serious age in which we live.
The book is a page turner. Even though you get the feeling it goes on and on forever, that is in part what the movie is trying to convey. Is life a hopeless pursuit that will end in utter destruction? Will there be hope by a few that remain? Has man's heart become so cold that he would devour another man in hunger?
Not a good date night movie.

Must-See Oscar Nominated film for Best Picture: The Hurt Locker
A little bit of patriotism and a little bit of renegade shines through this movie. It isn't always easy to watch, but it is an important film for our time.
Not a good date movie, but a GREAT movie. Don't miss it.
If you like a big soundtrack, give this one a listen.

A Serious Man - Seriously, whatever you do, do not go see this movie. It is ridiculous. Not funny. Takes a toll on you. I could barely sit through it. I suppose it is a movie designed to juxtapose religion and life, but oh my - how bad it is.
If there is someone you really don't like, this would be the perfect gift. Oh, it is That bad.
